@David:

Yeah I agree Sean Taylor is a tough fit for this list. Going on performance, this dude lit it up. His performance rarely disappointed. His murder went beyond being a disappointment.

However Freddy Adu, Juwan Howard, Chris Webber no matter how undeserved their hype might have been it was still there. Expectations were set and not met.

If you apply your logic on Ovechkin to others, Peyton Manning is a total bust.

Yep. Total Bust.

Ovechkin's been in the NHL 5 years. And he hasn't won anything yet. ZOMG TOTAL FAILURE!!

"DC might actually be one of the worst cities in all of sports in terms of positively assisting in a young athlete’s growth."

Tell that to the TWELVE home-grown draft picks currently playing for the Caps. They're having a tough year, yes. But to completely throw them under the bus as unsuccessful? That's not seeing the forest for the trees.

lol, I hope this was meant to be hilarious. Ovie hasn't been a disappointment. So he's having an off year but the Caps are still goign to make the playoffs again. Ryan Zimmermann had an off year once already, but he's still the best 3rd basemen in the majors. You can't be serious that Harper is doomed because he struck out twice in his major league debut. He's a kid. lol. He's going to go to the minors for at least a year because he's only 18. Oh and btw, Sean Taylor dying was not a "let down". It's called a tragedy. And unlike a couple others on this list, he was living up to the hype. There's no pattern to this list. Are you going by just pure bad luck? Stras's injury and Sean Taylors death were bad luck. Juwan Howard/ Webber were undeservedly overhyped, meaning they weren't as good as we thought they were. Freddy Adu was also overhyped. Arenas DID live up to his potential for 3 seasons before his idiocy caught up to him. That's not bad luck. The only common thread between these athletes is that they all played for D.C. teams. There's no other similarity...

So true, the depth of disappoint that this town has had to suffer through. The emotional roller coaster of hope and dispair goes hand in hand with being a fan of any of the DC sports organizations.

WHOA hey almost missed that little jab at the President, easy there O'Reilly
